Well, I have this old CRX that I use as my daily driver. It takes me to work everyday so my other car doesn’t have to bare the brunt of constant start and stop driving and cold starts only to barely get up to temp by the time it’s at work. But that’s because the other car has to do autocross duties as well as road trip duties. So do you know what makes a daily driver even more daily-able?

A turbo. No seriously. Since I’ve rebuilt this car, not only does it get me to work on time when I myself am running late, but it gets better gas mileage too! (Actual numbers later this week, but the gas gauge is moving much slower in relation to the odometer (it’s not broken is it?). I did tune it decently though.)

Plus, this car is just so damn fun to drive after work. It’s so unassuming in it’s beater-looking form and it moves with such force that you wouldn’t expect from a 1.5L engine. I do have supplies on the way to create an exhaust for it and I will tune it more so for power as well as turn the boost up a bit more to uh, get me to work on time. So with all that said and with the shameless “LOOK AT MY CAR” video, what daily driver is your best daily driver?

I might turbo my civic (yes, I own one) within a year or so, gotta get other things sorted out first before boost.

My only daily driver is my best daily driver. Jack of all trades and master of none, and despite this I want to keep this thing forever. Finding decent cars with manual transmissions is going to prove a challenge in the future, so since I have one now I will not let it go. It’s small enough yet large enough. It’s reasonably frugal, decently powerful, completely reliable, suitably unusual and rare. It doesn’t arouse feelings of envy and jealously I had to contend with when I drove MBs, BMWs, and Porsches, but it may bring up feelings of pity in those that think I could have done better - little do they know. It is just what I wanted and not once have I regretted the purchase.

I’ve had Jeeps, Mustangs, Fbodies, a Cadillac and a Corsica, but Geronimo is the current daily and probably my favorite yet because he’s a beater.

Most of my other stuff was nicer so I truly enjoy the 0FUXGVN attitude I can have with this thing. Scratches and dents don’t matter. I can climb over things to avoid traffic and the 5.2 V8 sounds awesome under full throttle.

After driving my Z28 for 6 or so years (3 of which were in NEPA winters), Geronimo is a nice reprieve. I still have the Camaro, but as a project. I never thought I’d be a beater guy, but now I don’t know if I ever want to make due without one.

Beaters certainly have their purpose, and like you said it’s really nice not to have to worry about scratches and dings. Just drive. Go where you need to go. Need to pick up some greasy car parts or stuff from the home improvement store? Take the beater; it won’t mind. I would love to have a Cherokee as my daily. Oh the activities that could be done with that.

I think this is one of the most overlooked practical dailies that still keeps it fun with a manual. Lets get past the socially constructed stigma that mini vans are on the caste level of the Prius in some niches and realize: it’s everything you could want in a daily. It will in fact get you there and you won’t necessarily be pining for something more exciting on your daily commute with the creature comforts and standard gear box. Plus, who needs a truck when you have fold flat seats? I would drive this. I would drive this hard. Unnngggggg yes, Mazda 5, I would drive you. *zoom zoom*
